Will Hughes off to Everton for £5m. With it SM will look to bring in Alex Bruce from Hull as another CB option, Scott Golbourne from Wolves as competition to Forsyth, Kyle Ebecilio from FC Twente (a player McClaren knows well) as a replacement to Hughes and Kingsley Coman on loan from Juventus as a young, pacy attacking option to compensate for injuries.

Heard this was true. Would all be good signings. A lot of people rate Ebecilio and Coman looks a good talent (praised highly by Juventus manager).

Is hughes really that good everton fan we have also been lined with mclaren if roberto gets sacked hope not don't rate mclaren

Glad you don't rate McClaren because we're doing just fine, thanks! Hughes would walk into an Everton side, but suspect he's destined for better things.

Derby rumoured to be the leader in the chase for Patrick Bamford. Major point being Boro cannot afford Bamford while Derby would be willing to pay what Chelsea want for him.

"Boro cannot afford Bamford". You're talking out of the wrong hole mate

Holy Trinity of Bryson, Hendrick and Hughes being split up in the New Year sales.

Hendrick, favoured by Keane before his dismissal, is still Aston Villa bound and Hughes lined up for Merseyside move but blue side not red.

Derby to take Diaby on loan from Arsenal, Brian Ruiz from Fulham and bring back Butland from Stoke.

Diaby is injury prone, don't need jack butland but Bryan Ruiz would be a good signing!

Diaby is seen as a temp midfield enforcer until Thorne is ready to go, Ruiz the experienced old head playing just behind Martin, quality playmaker he is and not happy at Fulham, and Butland loan move with a view to permanent deal if (or when) Derby go up.

I cannot believe that Derby are still cash strapped as a club and have not the means to go out and spend £5m on one player let alone the three or four we need. It was great to see the Derby squad stay together in the summer and sign long term deals but now that has happened we need to add quality to the first team not buffer up the squad!

Best is useless, Whitbread a waste of space and injured, Dawkins drifts in (literally!) too much and out of games, anyone seen Naylor?, we haven't seen anything of santos, casorla, or bunjaku. Only Christie has become a regular in the team.

I truly question Derby's summer buying policy, c'mon Rush get the money out and support the team with some much needed CB and CDM power!!

Santos, calero and bunjaku were solely bought for the under 21 side. as we needed better players for becoming grade 1 academy. the main objective of the summer was to keep the squad together that did well and add a few faces which they did. unfortunately thorne got injured which we couldn't foresee. so to question the summer buying policy is ludicrous. Smac is building something special at Derby it will take a little longer but i am sure when it comes together we will be up there competing in the premier league. I do feel though we should take a calculated gamble and spend a good sum of money in January with the position we are in the league. I feel we need 3 to 4 very good additions that are maybe better than what we have. then the 2nd half of the season we could take off and be untouchable.

Sure the team was kept together which was great news. No one wanted Martin, Hendrick, Hughes or Bryson to go, Keogh could have gone for me though and Ward (too injury prone, has he ever played a full season, 35+ games?).

But Derby should have bought more than just Thorne! We needed a new CB from the start of the season not in the new year though if we don't buy now it may be too late. And another striker is needed too.

As a suggestion play this formation

Grant,

3 at the back. Christie, Keogh and Shotton,

4 man midfield. Forsyth, Bryson, Hendrick, Coutts,

Hughes behind front two of Martin and Russell.

Think we will pay much better in that than at present.

Are you off your nut? We would get ripped with that line up!

No we wouldn't! playing higher up the pitch with forsyth and christie as wing backs and hughes play making the passes to the front two. Only lacking wide men in ibe or ward but too often they are either dynamic or drifters from game to game anyway

would be more solid and command midfield more, okay maybe we lose some goal threat but i see us winning more 1-0. clean sheets and one goal better than gung-ho draws. Change the style to get promoted, don't want another wembley let down.
